Recap on Heli-Expo 2015
Last week, WireMasters exhibited at HAI Heli-Expo 2015 in sunny Orlando, FL. With 57 aircraft on display, WireMasters was one of 735 exhibitors at this year’s show, along with 18,272 registered attendees! That number of attendees allowed WireMasters booth to remain a hub of activity throughout the show.
The AgustaWestland AW609 tilt-rotor was one of many static displays at Heli-Expo. During the show, test pilots Dan Wells and Paul Edwards gave an update to the Rotorcraft Industry on the AW609 program and what to expect going forward. The program has an expanded flight envelope to 18,000-pound maximum weight, 293 knots equivalent airspeed, and 30,000 feet (stats provided by Vertical Magazine). Both pilots agreed the fly-by-wire systems make the transition from helicopter to fixed wing easily and helps decrease the pilots work while landing. Still in acquisition and adapting to demand, the program is currently flying two prototypes; one from Arlington, Texas and another from Italy, with hopes to achieve FAA certification in 2017.
WireMasters booth was adjacent to Bell Helicopter’s during the exhibits The Textron subsidiary showcased a variety of updates throughout the show. Upon revealing their updated 407GXP model, they announced a large order with Emergency Services provider Air Methods for 200 aircraft.
Airbus unveiled its highly anticipated H160 Helicopter at HAI Expo. Holding a capacity of 12 passengers, the aircraft carries a smooth cruise speed of 160 knots and can maintain a “Hover Out of Ground” effect at 5,000 feet. Designed with a full composite airframe, the helicopter is built with five Blue Edge rotor blades, a biplane stabilizer, and a 12-degree canted tail rotor that combines the anti-torque role and a vertical lift component. Airbus will begin taking orders by January 2016, with initial deliveries of the H160 expected in 2018.
